Sheffield Museums is delighted to announce the return of Kelham Island Museum’s Victorian Christmas Market. Now in its 27th year, the much-loved event offers visitors an opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of a traditional Victorian Christmas whilst enjoying over 80 stalls from Sheffield makers, artisans and creatives, seasonal entertainment and festive family fun.

Festive themed market quarters include:

Sheffield Made: Discover traditional crafts and skills from local artists, craftspeople and artisans, including ceramics, prints, jewellery, glassware, metalwork and textiles. Visitors will be also able to enjoy blacksmithing, hand-spinning and woodworking demonstrations throughout the day.

All That Glitters: Shop unique homewares, gifts and jewellery, perfect for stocking fillers and festive surprises. A wide range of gift ideas will be available, from jewellery and books to handmade soap, candles and toys.

Christmas Shop: Get Christmas all wrapped up with an array of handmade cards, decorative treasures and vintage decorations.

  • Festive Food: Enjoy tastes from around the world, featuring a traditional hog roast, wood fired pizzas, Bavarian sausages, handmade crepes and traditional mulled wine.

Visitors will enjoy a selection of Dickensian themed entertainment, including a Victorian Music Hall stage with brass bands, choirs, folk singers and variety acts, and wandering living history characters – watch out for snow queen on stilts, a hurdy gurdy player and Victorian pickpockets!

There will also be a selection of festive family activities, a chance to visit Santa in his Grotto and pose for a souvenir photo in the Selfie Sleigh. Visitors can also explore the museum’s galleries, learn about Sheffield's steel story and feel the floor shake as the River Don Engine runs every hour, on the hour.

Kim Streets, Chief Executive of Sheffield Museums said:

“We’re delighted that our Victorian Christmas Market is back at Kelham Island Museum this year – it’s a Christmas tradition for so many in the city and a brilliant family day out. It’s also a chance to support our local makers and creatives, as well as Sheffield’s museums and galleries.”

Kelham Island Museum Victorian Christmas Market will open on Saturday 4 December (10am-7pm) and Sunday 5 December (10am-5pm). Admission charge is £7.50 for adults and accompanied children (Under 16) are free. A charge will apply to some activities including fairground rides and Santa’s Grotto.
