The Showroom announces Q&A with legendary director
Ken Loach will be in Sheffield to promote his new film, Sorry We Missed You
The Showroom Cinema has revealed they will be the only cinema in Sheffield to welcome legendary Director Ken Loach (I, Daniel Blake, Kes) for a special in-person Q&A after the screening of his new film Sorry We Missed You on Wednesday 13 November.
Taking aim at the UK gig economy, Loach’s new film Sorry We Missed You is a crucial and empathetic look at Ricky, a husband and father who lost both his career and mortgage after the 2008 financial crash. Unable to pass up work he takes a job with a delivery company. But the zero-hours contract offers no support, no benefits and workers must meet unreasonable targets. Loach’s latest is a passionate indictment of Tory austerity and highlights the impossibility of achieving anything but basic survival on an unpredictable minimum wage.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Ken Loach to the Showroom Cinema.” Says Showroom Senior Programmer Andy Moore, “50 years after the release of Kes, Loach’s work continues to connect with people in South Yorkshire in a really powerful way, and our audience always comes out to support his work.
“Like I, Daniel Blake Loach’s latest film takes an unflinching look at our broken economic system, and the profound impact it has on people’s lives. It’s a work of enormous empathy and sensitivity, and - as we head into yet another general election - an urgent and passionate plea that something has to change. It’s a great honour to be welcoming this legendary director to our stage to discuss his film.”
Ken Loach will be attending the Showroom Cinema for this one-off Q&A on Wednesday 13 November at 6:10pm. It’s advised to book early as possible to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be found here.
