The Sidney Street art gallery and social hub presents its seasonal debut show
To christen Sheffield’s newest independent art gallery and social club Sidney and Matilda (S & M), owners have announced their seasonal debut show, 'Bethlehem Boys Club'.
The Christmas-themed show with a twist opens at 10am on Tuesday December 18 and features paintings, sculpture, assemblage, print and performance from over twenty regional, national and international artists.
Sidney and Matilda’s owner Al Daw explains: “The B.B.C is an unlikely salon show providing an alternative take on the season of goodwill.
“Over twenty regional, national and international artists at various stages of their career tackle themes of religion, politics, ritual, anxiety, identity and consumer culture, culminating in an ambitious group show that is at once relevant, satirical and oozing with angst!
“Expect exceptional artwork against a backdrop of mulled wine, mince pies and live performances!”
Special DJ sets and a musical and visual performance from Emily J in costume with live-wind instruments and custom LEDs are planned throughout the show’s run, as well as closing set from a ‘special guest DJ.’
Saturday 22 December sees a performance by Sheffield based band Naguals described as ‘a cavernous anger-fuge of acidic guitars, driving Krautrock bass, pounding drums and explosive vocals. Twitchy, anxious part-improvised post punk garage powder kegs from the North.’
All work will be on sale alongside prints, merchandise and more available in the gallery shop. Those interested purchasing works or requiring more information please contact email@example.com.
Sidney and Matilda can be found in 46b Sidney Street, Sheffield, S1 4RH and for more info on this and other S & M events head over to their Facebook page here.
