The annual ‘Fronteer Open’ art exhibition and art prize comes to 35 Chapel Walk this month

Now in its second year, the Fronteer Open is an annual art exhibition and art prize returning to 35 Chapel Walk from 27 November until 6 December.

Following on from the success of last year, the exhibition features a diverse range of over 80 artworks spread over two floors, with everything from traditional sculpture to prints, photography, and contemporary artworks, as well as £100 cash prize for winning artists.

The exhibition is sponsored by arts listings website CuratorSpace, who are offering winning artists a year’s free Artist Profile on the CuratorSpace website, and is organised by Fronteer founders Michael Borkowsky and Sharon Mossbeck.

Sharon said: “This is the second Fronteer Open exhibition, as we work towards establishing this annual event. We want to create an art prize for artists from all backgrounds, from amateurs to professionals, which will become part of the Sheffield art scene.

“We really care about encouraging artists and continuing to support the artists we work with, and we are passionate about making an exhibition which is inclusive for everyone; both artists and visitors.

The judging panel this year includes award winning artist and founder of Harrington Mill Studios Jackie Berridge, alongside Michael and Sharon. The panel will select one winning artist, while the other winner is decided by public vote in the People’s Choice Prize.

Don’t miss the chance to get involved as last year every vote really did count. Art lovers can find out if your favourite artist is a winner and join in the celebratory atmosphere at Prize Evening on 6 December when winners will be announced.

Sharon added: “Both Michael and I are very excited to be bringing another Fronteer Open exhibition, and to be working with the wonderful 35 Chapel Walk Gallery at the heart of the city once again. We had so many wonderful art works submitted and we believe we have selected a diverse and exciting exhibition.

“It's always great to see visitors getting involved and voting for their favourite art work in the People's Choice Award, and we can't wait to see which artist will win the prize this year.

The exhibition is FREE to enter and opens to the public from 27 November until 6 December (closed on Sundays). It closes with the Prize Evening from 6-7.30pm.
