Interactive screening of Hedwig and the Angry Inch set to take over Showroom
See John Cameron Mitchell’s underground queer rock musical as you've never experienced it before
This October at the Showroom Cinema a season of foot-stomping, ear-worming musicals burst onto the screen and into the café bar. The season aggressively kicks off with Hedwig and the Angry Inch plus a musical performance hosted by queer trans icon Grace Oni Smith on Saturday 5 October at 8.30pm.
As part of the film screening the Showroom are also joined by Make a Scene, who are bringing an all too raucous, way-too-interactive audience participation treatment to the Showroom Café Bar. With singing, dancing and dressing up highly encouraged – if not mandatory! There’s even a chance to join the Angry Inch themselves.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch quickly gained cult status after it’s 2001 release and has stood the test of time as a profound and bold exploration of gender and identity. As it follows the ‘internationally ignored’ songstress Hedwig as she tours fast-food chains in the footsteps of her former lover who has made it big by stealing her original songs.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the first of the Showroom Cinema’s Musicals season, which will cover cult and rare musicals such as Little Shop of Horrors, to kid friendly sing-a-longs like The Little Mermaid.
The Musicals season is brought to the Showroom Cinema in partnership with Live Cinema UK and Make a Scene and is screening as part of the BFI Musicals! The Greatest Show on Screen, a UK-wide film season supported by National Lottery, BFI Film Audience Network and ICO.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch + Make a Scene is showing for one night only at the Showroom Cinema on October 5 at 8.30pm. Tickets are available online, or at the Showroom Cinema Box Office, Tel 0114 275 7727.
