The hit TV-show star should be used to the family feuds as the family tensions run high in revival of a classic play at Sheffield theatres
Winter has definitely been coming to Sheffield in recent weeks, and that’s not all that’s heading to the Steel City as Githa Sowerby’s celebrated classic, Rutherford and Son, starring Game of Thrones’ Owen Teale is revived at the Crucible from today, Friday 8 – Saturday 23 February.
Teale, who plays Ser Alliser Thorne in Game of Thrones, plays the titular role in Rutherford and Son, an overbearing, dogmatic and disappointed father. With three grown children and not one qualified to take over his family-owned glassworks, he rules his household with tyranny and disdain. Janet, John and Richard have dreams of their own but none can break free. Mary is different.

Married into the family and with ambitions for her son, she’ll untangle the ties that bind. Caroline Steinbeis (Love and Information) directs Githa Sowerby’s celebrated classic about the struggle for supremacy, legacy and deciding one’s own destiny.
The full cast is completed by: Esh Alladi (A Confession) as Richard, Laura Elphinstone (Peterloo) as Janet, Brian Lonsdale (Hustle) as Martin, Marian McLoughlin (Thin Ice) as Ann, Ciarán Owens (The Inbetweeners) as John, Lizzie Roper (Call the Midwife) as Mrs Henderson, and Danusai Samal (Ghost in the Shell) as Mary.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres’ Box Office in-person, by phone on 0114 249 6000 or online, priced from £15.00.
