Last week we told you where to eat with the kids this summer holiday, for this week here’s a few ideas of some of the best things to do to keep them from climbing the walls!

For many of us, we’re two weeks in to the school summer holidays and it already feels like six! With the prospect of another few weeks to go, we’re already running out of ideas to keep the kids entertained.

Fortunately, the good people across Sheffield have heard our cries for help, and have organised a load of activities to get the kids’ creative juices flowing. So as well as a child-free morning, you’ll come away with a piece of art to add to the fridge gallery.

Join the Arty Party at Kommune

Kommune’s Arty Party will guide your kids through two different exciting activities that kids love making and parents will want to keep. You can trust Zoe to help them get their creative caps on and have some fun for an hour.

Whether you catch up with friends, grab a coffee, read a magazine or even join in – Kommune is the perfect space to keep the whole family occupied.

Suitable for children aged 5 to 12 years.

Classes on Friday 9, Thursday 15 & Wednesday 28 August at 10 - 11am / 11:15 - 12:15pm.

From clay making collages, The Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet has lots of creative classes on offer this summer to keep the kids entertained. The best part? All classes are free with admission to the museum.

This week, follow in Benjamin Huntsman's footsteps by designing your own clock.

Check out the full programme of summer art activities at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet here.

Make Your Own Alien Mask

This year’s summer reading challenge is an out of this world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Join the space chase in one of Bright Box Makerspace's Alien Mask Making sessions in Sheffield's libraries this summer. Make your own light up alien mask using an assortment of craft materials, mini lights and battery packs.

This week, on Tuesday 6 August, the Bright Box team will be coming to Parson Cross Library.

To see when the aliens will land at your local library, check out the programme here.

The Invention Station – Make your own Navy ship - Kelham Island Museum

Be inspired by Sheffield's industrial story to build, design and experiment at Kelham Island Museum.  From mega machines to mini models - what will you create?

This Tuesday 6 August is the 'Machine Challenge', where children are asked to design, invent and build the machines of the future.

Activities are free with museum admission and are held every Tuesday until 27 August.
