The Reel Steel film festival returns this spring with a host of cult classics

This March will see Sheffield's Abbeydale Picture House transformed for a feast of cinema as pop-up cinema specialists Reel Steel bring their celebration of cult cinema favourites back to the historic venue for a second year.

Following the success of the 2019 edition the 2020 Cult Weekender Film Festival returns from Friday 13 March – Sunday 15 March with a programme which includes classic horror, 80s classics and a couple of much-loved Studio Ghibli titles.

The festival begins on Friday 13th with a special 40th anniversary Friday The 13th (1980) screening, followed by screenings across the weekend of Assault On Precinct 13 (1976), RoboCop (1987) - presented in 35mm, Kiki's Delivery Service (Studio Ghibli) – presented in 35mm and Howl's Moving Castle (Studio Ghibli) – also presented in 35mm.

With half the films screened over the weekend showcased on 35mm celluloid, 35mm film projection tours will be available to full weekend ticket holders, ahead of one of their two Studio Ghibli screenings.

As well as the Cult Weekenders, Reel Steel have previously hosted film screenings at the Abbeydale Picture House including Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon, The Thing and Big Trouble In Little China, My Neighbour Totoro and the Back To The Future Trilogy, specialising in screening classic, cult and older film titles on the big screen, so that today's audiences can experience important, overlooked or influential titles in the format they were designed to be seen.

Weekend tickets are priced at £26.40 (including booking fee) and are available to purchase through Tickets For Good here. Tickets for each screening will also be individually on sale. For more details, event info and full listings, head over to Reel Steel’s website.
