An open-air cinema and street theatre will take over Sheffield’s Peace Gardens and Barkers Pool across the weekend

Sheffield’s Peace Gardens and Barkers Pool will be awash with musical masterpieces and theatrical performances over Tramlines weekend (21 – 22 July), as outdoor cinema and street theatre thrive in city-centre.

The family-friendly screenings line-up, which forms part of ‘The Fringe at Tramlines’ presented by Sheffield City Council and Sheffield BID (Business Improvement District) has been released and will include local acts, global music, young artists, film screenings and street theatre from The University of Sheffield.

The free music stage will return to its spiritual home on Devonshire Green and the Peace Gardens will now be home to a huge 33sqm screen, showing musical films suitable for people of all ages, featuring ‘Disney favourites, feel-good classics, musicals and highlights from Tramlines’ past.’

Street Theatre, from The University of Sheffield will take at Barkers Pool with roaming performers also entertaining fringe festival goers as they move between locations. Look out for ‘The Boulderers’, a street performance fusing dance, parkour and bouldering, roaming circus performers and talented buskers dotted on the trail from Sheffield station into the city-centre.

Diane Jarvis, Sheffield BID manager, said: “The Fringe at Tramlines has something for everyone to enjoy, including families. With the open air cinema in the Peace Gardens showing some family favourite films alongside footage from Tramlines’ archives, music fans young and old will be able to enjoy that festival atmosphere in the city centre.

“With the Peace Gardens open air cinema, entertainment at Barkers Pool and music on Devonshire Green, the BID hopes thousands of music fans will visit the city centre to enjoy food, drink and music with their families at The Fringe at Tramlines.”
