Witnessing a Sheffield Sharks basketball victory

If you’ve never been to a professional basketball game or haven’t given it any thought - I highly recommend you consider going, and here’s why…

You enter in to Ponds Forge and are immediately greeted by a lovely team of friendly staff on the ticket desk providing exceptional customer service. After finding your seat there are hot and cold snacks available to purchase and an array of drinks for sale to accompany the game. I have to say though that a foot long hot dog seems like the perfect accompaniment.

The doors are opened around an hour before the game starts and when going in early you have more of an experience. Music plays in the background, a hyped up crowd of people provides amazing atmosphere and you get to watch both teams warm up and prepare for the game. As the seats start filling up the countdown ticks down and the excitement starts to kick in.

The latest Sheffield Sharks league game against the Newcastle Eagles on 15 October started as they all do, with a tip off. Sharks win the tip off and the game got off to an amazing start - points came pouring in for our beloved team and the outcome was clear from the beginning. Time outs tend to be called by both teams throughout the game and in between, dancers run onto the court and keep the crowd entertained whilst eagerly waiting.

The scores after each quarter were as follows:

 S    E

19 - 15

 S    E

37 - 31

Half time

 S    E

62 - 55

 S    E

85 - 64

In true Shark style it was a thrashing!

The game finishes, the crowd roars and the winning team celebrates.

If you haven’t been to a Sheffield Sharks game then maybe you should consider it - it’s well worth a visit to support your local professional basketball team.
