The Fitzwilliam Street development would create 95 new residential flats
Plans are lodged for a development of 95 new flats on the site of a garage in Sheffield city-centre.
Axis Architecture, on behalf of Swifts Performance, has submitted an application to Sheffield City Council for a site at the junction of Fitzwilliam Street and Milton Street, which is currently occupied by Swifts Performance’s car maintenance garage.
If plans are approved, the existing building will be demolished to make way for construction of a new residential building of between eight and 11 storeys. The new building would comprise 95 flats, with a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom units.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application, said: "The development will provide employment opportunities temporarily during the construction of the building and through the creation of jobs in managing the development and in the amenities provided.
"The scheme will aid in enhancing the range of residential units on offer in the area and will help to enliven this area in the city centre."
The site is adjacent to a 17-storey residential development currently under construction.
