Meadowhall lights up for PridePosted by: Katerina Vyurkova
The shopping centre is celebrating the eleventh Sheffield Pride in striking fashion this year
Meadowhall’s roof will be rainbow-lit every evening this month, celebrating Sheffield’s Pride and marking 50 years since the Stonewall riots.
Visible from the M1, the colours of the Pride flag will be on display atop the centre until Pride Sheffield, which takes place on 27 July, and signifies the start of the centre’s fundraising activities for its chosen charity, Stonewall, a leading LGBTQ+ organisation.
Darren Pearce, Meadowhall Centre Director, said: “Meadowhall’s glass dome and roof have become somewhat iconic for the region and looks spectacular when illuminated in the colours of the pride flag.
“It’s truly spectacular to see and we hope that it encourages those visiting the centre or driving past to show their support this July in the build up to Sheffield Pride and donate to Stonewall to help fund all they do.”
The shopping centre is also encouraging visitors to ‘wear their colours with pride’ at its Raining Rainbows backdrop in The Post Room. Visitors are encouraged to make a £1 donation to the charity for every picture taken against the backdrop.
The Post Room will run until 17 July and can be found on Lower Higher Street close to Superdrug.
