After a very difficult couple of years for businesses all over Yorkshire it is so exciting that this has happened to a South Yorkshire business!

Glass Onion director wins a British Fashion Council Changemakers Award under the Environmental Pillar! Judges for the award include Edward Enninful (Editor In Chief of Vogue), Farrah Storr (Editor In Chief of ELLE UK), Model Lily Cole and Queer Eye’s Tan France! The judges chose Glass Onion for their contribution to reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry and for their commitment to making an impact in the community through employment of local skilled people. There were over 100,000 entries for the award so to win is very exciting for an independent South Yorkshire business that started out in a coal shed!

Director John and their Remade Designer Andy, were invited down to an awards show in London to meet all of the judges and accept the prize. They will be using the £7,500 prize money to buy a new industrial sewing machine which will allow us to employ another machinist on the Real Living Wage.

It has been a very difficult couple of years for businesses all over Yorkshire and it is so exciting that this has happened to a South Yorkshire business. They are even receiving a special feature in ELLE Magazine soon.

The nine nominees, were nominated by colleagues, peers, employers and businesses, recognising their outstanding work within one of the three pillars of the BFC’s Institute of Positive Fashion: Environment, People or Craftsmanship and Community.

John is the founder of Glass Onion in South Yorkshire, a vintage and remade clothing provider to the Highstreet who have recently launched a DTC website. Sorting and grading een tonnes of used clothing each week, they are growing a factory that only ‘remakes’ vintage clothing – cu ing, sewing and remaking 12,000 remade pieces per month.

Glass Onion is worthy winner of this award for their dedication in building such an amazing clothing shop and all that has come from that.
