DINA and Record Junkee to launch Sheffield’s latest live music venue
DINA Venue, on Cambridge Street
Network is a brand new 500 capacity venue on the first floor of the DINA complex
Sheffield arts centre DINA and Earl Street’s record store and gig venue Record Junkee are to collaborate on a new live music destination for the city centre.
Network, which finds its home on the first floor of the DINA complex on Cambridge Street, offers a fully technically rigged 500 capacity venue for touring and in-house production with newly installed staging, lighting and PA.
DINA project director Deborah Egan heralded the partnership as breaking a trend in the city after numerous venues have closed.
She said: “We’ve seen much loved Sheffield live music locations shut over the years like The Harley and The Boardwalk, and a general downturn nationally.
“We feel this will fill an important gap in Sheffield’s gigs and nightlife offering.”
Martin Leverton of Record Junkee said: “Our venue on Earl Street has seen us bring some great bands and acts nationally and internationally like IDLES, Frank Carter & The Rattlenakes, Fat White Family and Viagra Boys, however with only a 150 capacity it restricted to our ambitions to continue attracting big names and international touring.
“For a city with such a strong history of music making, it needs more spaces to continue that rich musical heritage. We feel this partnership will create greater opportunities for exciting programming and promoting.”
The venue also hopes to nurture Sheffield’s music talent by providing them with a platform for greater exposure.
Deborah added: “At DINA, we pride ourselves on developing local talent and giving them a space to perform and we feel Network will be a go-to destination for burgeoning bands and musicians in Sheffield.”
Network’s opening night is on Friday September 7 with the prestigious house music DJ Rahaan coming over from Chicago, the birthplace of the genre, for an exclusive headline set plus shows announced for NYC hardcore legends Agnostic Front and alt-indie powerhouse A.A. Bondy.
