VIBE’s September 2019 beer picks
Beer Central's Sean Clarke
This month, Sean form Beer Central has picked out a couple of stouts and a late summer beauty to usher in the changing season
Hi everyone, didn't August go quickly? Only seems five minutes since we were all lounging on the beach, kids splashing around in the shallows and ice creams all round, with a flake, obviously!
September has arrived, our daily lives drift back to the normal pre-holiday routines, but don't despair, the beers continue to flow, with plenty of the UK's top independent breweries releasing some late summer crackers. What with everything happening down in Westminster at the moment, a beer whilst watching the evening news might make things seem a bit simpler for us all, and don’t forget, if you get chance… Vote Beer!
Here's three to watch out for. The Marble Earl Grey is already in Sheffield and tasting superb, watch out for the two Stouts arriving mid-September, they’ll be well worth the wait!
Louie - Imperial Chocolate Stout
Wander Beyond Brewing (Manchester) 11.0% ABV & 440ml Can
Brewed with their friends from Vault City (Edinburgh), Louie is a luxurious imperial chocolate stout. The grist comprised of light chocolate malt, chocolate barley, chocolate rye, chocolate wheat and oats for mouthfeel. They also used cacao husks in the mash, cacao nibs and cocoa powder in the copper as well as cacao nibs in the fermenter, in fact they seem to have got something chocolatey into every stage of the brewing process! Louie is slick and full of dark chocolate notes. A decadent treat.
Earl Grey IPA
Marble Brewery (Manchester) 6.8% & 400ml Can
This was originally brewed in collaboration with legendary Dutch brewers, Kees, and now gets a release every few months to satisfy the ever present demand. A mouth-watering IPA, it has Earl Grey Tea added during fermentation and plenty of hops offer up a citrus fruit aroma and a lovely bitterness to finish it all off. This is a classic modern beer from two breweries that really do know what they are doing. If you haven’t had it before then you’re in a for a real treat.
Flatpack Fika Fuel – Imperial Milk Stout
Brew York Beer (York) 9.5% & 440ml Cans
Another big stout to keep an eye out for, that’s two stouts this month, but lay off me, it is getting dark earlier now! This one sounds amazing anyway, a must have. Brew York have teamed up with Beersmiths (Gothenburg) and they’ve brewed a big sweet pastry stout with 3kg of Pecan Nuts per barrel and lashings of caramel and tonka Beans. It’s getting brilliant ratings on Untappd and will keep you feeling nice and cosy if things turn chilly on an evening. Grab a bath, pop on your dressing gown, slide on the slippers, get yourself a Flatpack Fika Fuel… what a night!
