VIBE’s October 2019 beer picks (sort of)Posted by: Sean Clarke
Beer Central's Sean Clarke
This month, rather than pick three beers, Sean from Beer Central has picked out one HUGE event packed full of lovely beer to get stuck into
Hello Sheffield (and everyone else!), but surely we don’t get anybody reading this beyond Dronfield? If we reach Chesterfield, then a big Derbyshire welcome to the Spireites from everyone here at Beer Central!
Well October has arrived and if today (Thursday 3rd) is anything to go by, we are in for a nippy autumn and winter. I’m going to predict a freezing cold few months right up to February, followed by a warming spring and summer, easy that. I always wanted to be a weatherman, this is the only chance I get to show my expertise!
October in Sheffield is all about the Steel City Beer Festival down at Kelham Island Museum, it's Sheffield CAMRA's 45th Festival, this year running from the 16 - 19th of October.
With over 200 beers and ciders on offer, an interesting range of different bars (including the Abbeydale Keg Bar), loads of music and a tasty range of local independent food producers, we've long held a high regard for this festival.
Thousands of beer fans descend on the museum for the festival
Sheffield CAMRA is the best branch in the country, a friendly team who are very passionate about creating a brilliant festival, always with respect for the past, but accepting that the present and future are part of everything they do. The Steel City Beer Festival is the highlight of their year and for many good beer drinkers, this is a must visit.
Our 2019 involvement means that Beer Central is Sponsoring the Champion Beer of Sheffield Competition, and the much anticipated announcement will be made on Wednesday evening as the festival kicks off.
The 2018 Champ is Little Critters Nutty Ambassador, and we’re wondering if it might win again? With over twenty beers in competition, things are going to be very competitive, we wish the very best of luck to all the breweries entering, we're very proud to be involved, I'm sure the winning trophy will be handed to a very deserving brewing team!
For more information on the festival, including details of entry times, prices and how you can volunteer, make sure you visit Sheffield CAMRA’s website here.
We'll be down on the opening night, very excited, see you there!
