VIBE’s March 2019 beer picksPosted by: Ashley Birch
March is a big one for beer fans, and here’s our pal Sean Clarke from Beer Central to guide you through the star of the Sheffield beer calendar
So, here we are - March brings us to one of the most important weeks of the year for beer in the Steel City! The mighty Sheffield Beer Week runs from 11– 17 March and includes fantastic beery events all over the place. It’s a great chance for the city to showcase beer and SheffBeerWeek draws in visitors from across the UK and beyond, supporting the local economy and engaging with the city at many different levels, everybody wins!
Before the week kicks off we also have Indy Beer Feast, now expanded to two days (8 and 9 March) at Abbeydale Picture House, and features independent breweries from around the UK and across the globe. It looks brilliant and many breweries are bringing their own bars, a real chance to meet and talk to the people who brew your favourite beers!
Watch out for Abbeydale, Black Iris, Blackjack, Cloudwater, Elusive Brewing, Loka Polly, Lost Industry, Magic Rock Brewing, Mobberley, Neepsend, North Brewing, Neptune, NZ Beer Collective, Orbit, Ridgeside, Saint Mars of the Desert, Thornbridge, Torrside, Turning Point, Wander Beyond, Wild Card and Wild Weather.
The rest of SheffBeerWeek is mightily impressive! Our own big event here at Beer Central takes place down at Shakespeares on Wednesday 13 March. It’s a Battle of the Beers competition and we’re looking to retain our trophy from last year. As it’s already sold out, we thought we’d take a look at three other events that have caught our eye. Have a great time!

Fantome Brewery Showcase and Meet The Brewer at The Rutland Arms – Sunday 10 March at 7pm
A showcase of the Belgian breweries highly rated keg beers and a bottle tasting of Fantome’s new and classic beers hosted by their new head brewer. A ticketed event at £15 per person, this looks like a fantastic night, a real insight into life at Fantome!
Out and About Launch at The Devonshire Cat – Monday 11 March at 7pm
Everyone is welcome to the launch of the Sheffield based (non-profit organisation), ”Out and About”. Their main aim is to create a safe space in the Sheffield beer community for LGBT+ people and they’ll be launching with a collaboration beer with Abbeydale Brewery. Free entry for this one, lovely people organising it all and a new beer to try, what could be better!
Saint Mars of the Desert Launch Party at the SMOD Brewery Taproom in Attercliffe – Saturday 16 March between Midday and 8pm.
We held a recent Bottle Share event here and we have to say this Taproom is one of the best we’ve ever been in, a magical little world in the middle of an Attercliffe Industrial Estate! It’s a free entry event, join Martha & Dann for their grand opening, a lovely afternoon and evening is guaranteed!
