VIBE's January 2019 beer picks

VIBE's January 2019 beer picks supporting image

In this month’s column, Beer Central’s Sean Clarke brings in the new year with three beers fit for the resolution busting Tryanuary event (unless your new year’s resolution was to drink more new beer!)

Hi folks! Hope you had a fantastic Christmas and a wonderful New Year – 2019 looks like being a good one, don’t you think? We’re certainly looking forward to an exciting year at Beer Central! As you may be aware, we normally feature a beer or two in our Vibe column, but this month we’re firstly going to feature an event, an event that lasts the whole of January, an event that will encourage you to try new beers. So that’s ‘trying new beers in January’, suppose the obvious name for it would be Tryanuary!

Tryanuary was created back in 2015 and since then has done all it can to encourage beer fans to support independent breweries, pubs, bars and retailers in what can be a long slower month for the industry. As a result, having a ‘try’ rather than going ‘dry’ has become a popular idea for many quality beer drinkers, and if you live in and around Sheffield, then you really are going to be spoilt for choice! We’ve picked out three beers that would be worth a try for Tryanuary!

Magic Rock Brewing – Huddersfield

Big Dipper (2019) – 8.3% Double IPA (DIPA) 500ML Can and Vegan

This is a revisit of Magic Rock’s collab Double IPA with their good friends at Cloudwater and has been tweaked a little to make the 2019 version extra special. It’s a DIPA full of hops, including Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Eureka and is fermented with London Fog yeast, offering up juicy fruit Double IPA with loads of Mango and Peach aroma/flavour, a tiny touch of  sweetness and drinkability that will have you gasping for more. Watch for this landing into Sheffield from the 14 January onwards, well worth seeking out.

Cloudwater Brew Co – Manchester

Three’s Company (2019) – 8.2% IPA 440ML Can and Vegan

Here’s the flipside of the recent collaboration brews between Cloudwater and Magic Rock, and is another incredibly popular beer resurrected from a year or two back. Three’s Company uses their famous batch of JW Lee’s yeast and is backed up with the very best New World hops. Expect another fruit festival from this one, with flavours of gooseberry, grape, melon & peach! This batch is expected into Sheffield from around the 15th January and will be available across Sheffield’s pubs, bars & beer shops.

Tiny Rebel Brew Co – Newport

Pump up the Jam – 5% Jam Doughnut Pale Ale 330ML Can

You like your sweet, sticky doughnuts? Well Tiny Rebel have brewed up a beer that might just satisfy your doughnut desires….. what we have here is a 5% Pale Ale that offers up sweet jam flavours with a sweet bready malt base. European hops give it a light bite, but it’s the Jam Doughnuts that take centre stage. If you like to drink a bit more ‘left field’, grab a can of this, it’s already available in Sheffield and flying off the shelves here at Beer Central.
