We turn to Beer Central's Sean Clarke for this month's beer picks

April is here, hope you didn’t get fooled!

March was a beauty, hope everyone enjoyed SheffBeerWeek and all the rest that was going off across the Steel City.

It’s April’s turn now though, another big month for Sheffield with the World Snooker Championships starting at The Crucible on 20 April.

During the two weeks of the Championships we’re always amazed with how many snooker fans from across the globe call into our little shop to treat themselves. The Championships really have an outstanding impact on businesses here, and the city’s hotels, pubs and restaurants get an especially big boost.

We’ve caught the snooker bug ourselves, and we’ve challenged Adam (most recently from Shakespeare’s and very shortly The Crow), Chris (from The Rutland and The Crow) and Sam (from Abbeydale) to a snooker challenge. More on who wins next month, but we hear that Chris ‘Black Ball’ Bamford is the big favourite!

In the meantime, enjoy the April showers, enjoy Easter, and enjoy these three tasty beers…

Northern Monk – Guava Have Faith

440ml Can & 5.4% ABV

Leeds favourites, Northern Monk, continue to push the limits with community, innovation and quality at the heart of everything they do. Their Faith Pale Ale is rightly celebrated as one of the best modern day Pales and they’ve given it a little twist! Expect lots of sunshiney goodness at the heart of this, with additions of Guava & Passionfruit to give it a ‘totally tropical taste’! I may have borrowed that final description from somewhere, hope Lilt don’t mind!

Abbeydale & Siren – Sow The Seeds

440ml Can & 5.5% ABV

Abbeydale had a visit from Berkshire’s Siren Craft Brew last month and Jim (Abbeydale) and Steve (Siren) got it together and brewed up a new Farmhouse IPA. This 5.5% India Pale Ale uses Mosaic & Simcoe hops to give it a pine filled and fruity flavour, but has been delicately fermented with Abbeydale’s house strain of Brettanomyces yeast. Expect a hoppy and tart fruitiness, it’ll be very moreish this one!

BrewYork – Turtle Peach

440ml Can & 4.4% ABV

This is an interesting beer, it has been brewed and designed to promote the difficulties faced by Sea Turtles (particularly by plastic) and 10p per can bought is donated to Project Biodiversity, to help support Sea Turtles and hopefully reduce the negative impacts of human life on their natural and fragile environment. Turtle Peach is a light, easy drinking blonde ale with Apricot & Peach. Have yourself a good time drinking this, the Turtles will thank you for it!

See you all in May!
