Kommune reveal opening datePosted by: Ashley Birch
… and fortunately you won’t have long to wait!
Excitement has been building for new Castlegate food hall Kommune over the last couple of months, as they slowly revealed thie trader line-up, and now they are finally ready to announce their opening date.
The opening weekend is set to be 22 – 24 March and they’ll be open bright and early from 9am until late, satisfying your breakfast, dinner and tea needs each day, as well as serving everything from local brews to organic wines, and an eclectic mix of cocktails and homemade sodas on the ‘Department of Drinks’ bar that wraps itself around its famous spiral staircase.
The bar line up boasts a permanent selection of Freedom brewery beer that is free from animal products and brewed with a conscience as well as some continually changing guest taps. The wine list will be varied, hitting some of those all-time favourites, along with some more contemporary wines and fizz.
The cocktail list sounds pretty exciting too, with a cocktail inspired by each of the traders as well as some classics, and a separate aperitivo menu. For those of you preferring the 0% route there will also be a list of house made cordials and sodas.
The kitchen lin-up is equally exciting too, featuring Pom Kitchen, Shoot The Bull, Chaat Cart, Fat Hippo, The Depot Bakery, JH Mann, Tamper, YOKI, MorMor and Baked in Brick. To find out more about what the traders will have on offer, check out our roundup here.
Kommune isn’t just about the food and drink though, and the retailers joining the Kommune family are both well-loved Sheffield shops who have decided to relocate.
Hop Hideout will be using their in-depth knowledge to provide craft beer, cider, specialist natural, biodynamic and organic wines and spirits in ‘a one-stop shop for great quality drinks to take home’.
La Biblioteka are putting in a specialist magazine, book and printing shop as well as facilitating other pop ups by local, independent artists and craftspeople in the space.
Finally, heading up the art department at Kommune will be The Viewing Room, brought by the creators of 99 Mary St and DED design agency. A contemporary gallery with a focus on pop, urban and contemporary art showcasing the works of established pop art idols as well as exciting new works by local and international up and coming artists.
The gallery space will host many unique exhibitions, events and workshops aimed to promote engagement with contemporary art.
Kommune is a venture that the people behind Tamper, The Depot Bakery and Kollider Projects have been working on for some time and forms part of a bigger regeneration project of Castle House and the surrounding area.
So, the countdown is officially on and it’s only two weeks to go! Make sure you keep an eye on Kommune’s social media for all the latest updates.
