Spit roast specialists La Baracca bring authentic Italian cuisine to the road’s ever expanding choice of top eateries

Offering balls of every description (rice, pasta, dough) as well as the headline, mouth-watering rotisserie chicken, La Baracca is Abbeydale Road’s latest comfort food joint.

 

The menu is packed full of healthy, fresh ingredients, so you can make this your regular without worrying about your waistline. You also won’t need to worry about your bank account, with little bites of heaven - otherwise known as arancini balls - priced at £1.50 and lasagne for £6.50; this place is serving good, honest food that’s small on price but big on flavour.

 

Kim, daughter of Sorrento-born owner Saverio, told VIBE: “La Baracca is an authentic Italian chicken rotisserie restaurant. All the chickens that we get are free range, corn fed, and everything we make on the premises is home cooked.

 

 

“We don’t like to have a huge impact on the planet, and if you’re gonna eat meat it’s one of the meats to eat which has the least impact on the planet. We just wanted a rustic, good and honest family place, which definitely fits in very well on Abbeydale Road.”

 

The restaurant also champions the use of recyclable materials, storing all ingredients in glass bottles and sourcing all their fresh produce locally.

 

The father and daughter duo are as well-seasoned as their rotisserie chicken when it comes to running successful restaurants in Sheffield. Saverio explained: “We have had restaurants since 1990, from Flying Pizza on West Street to Italia Uno on Ecclesall Road to Leonardo’s on London Road, and now we’re here!”

 

 

Kim added: “My Dad has more experience than my life time in the kitchen, and his mum taught him everything he knows. So it’s actually generations upon generations of cooking good, honest food.”

 

And this experience is already paying off, reflecting on the restaurant’s first few weeks, Saverio said: “So far we’ve had a good response. Everyone has put good feedback on Facebook and everything.”

 

Kim is certainly happy to call Abbeydale Road the home of La Baracca. She said: “It’s nice because we have all the support of the local businesses. These guys (pointing to two customers happily digging in to a selection of Italian dishes), are from Na Pedra down the road, The Gravel Pit come across - literally everyone around here. That’s what we love about Abbeydale Road, it’s the community. Everyone knows us, and we all support one another. That’s what we do.”
