Abbeydale Brewery launch first ever lagerPosted by: Ashley Birch
‘Heresy’ will launch at their annual Sunfest beer festival, held at the Rising Sun pub next weekend
One of Sheffield’s best-loved breweries has announced the introduction of a lager to their range of permanently available beers for the first time in its 23 year history.
The lager, to be named Heresy, will comprise part of Abbeydale Brewery’s popular ‘Brewers Emporium’ range, with eye catching artwork from designer James Murphy. It is made in the style of a continental lager, promising a ‘clean and crisp flavour coupled with a refreshing finish’, and will be available in both keg and 440ml can.
“it’s about being able to offer something we produce to absolutely everyone,” says Brewery director Dan Baxter: “Recipe development, including extensive staff training, has been underway for many months, which was definitely time well spent – we’re thrilled with the final outcome and can’t wait for everyone to try it, just in time for summer!”
Brewery owner Sue Morton adds: "It’s always been an ambition of ours to have a lager as part of our core range, and it’s been a long time coming for us. We’ve had the name Heresy in mind for our lager since our beginnings in 1996 and have been saving it ever since, so it’s very exciting for us to see that the name finally has a lager to belong to!"
The introduction of Heresy is the next step in Abbeydale Brewery’s ambitious ongoing programme of expansion, which also includes the recent addition of two new units at their site just off Abbeydale Road. The new space will allow the brewery to increase capacity as well as open up to the public for special events.
Abbeydale Brewery will launch Heresy lager officially at their annual Sunfest beer festival, held at the Rising Sun in Nether Green from Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 July. For more info head over to Abbeydale’s Facebook page.
