The 152-year-old brandy is still in a good drinkable condition is available for a Sheffield-based private seller.
Visitors to the BBC website may have read a recent story about a rare bottle of cognac – dating to 1762 – selling at auction for £118,000.
The vintage Gautier bottle – one of only three left in the world – was purchased by a private collector in Asia.
Not quite of the same vintage but almost as historic is a bottle of 1868 Cordon Bleu cognac which has recently made available from a private seller in Sheffield. Look carefully and you can see that the original label shows that is was sold by Hay & Son, wine merchants of Sheffield. It isn’t as old as the Gautier but it’s a fraction of the price.
