Hillsborough Together Unveils ‘Christmas Starts With You In Hillsborough’ – a Festive Extravaganza Heading to S6!

Hillsborough Together, a dedicated community and independent business-focused organisation, is proud to announce its upcoming spectacular event, ‘Christmas Starts With You In Hillsborough’.

This festive weekend-long event is a testament to the commitment of Hillsborough Together to foster unity, collaboration, and inclusivity in the Hillsborough community. By bringing together local businesses, residents and community organisations, Hillsborough Together aims to create opportunities for further connection, growth and collective action.

Established as part of Sheffield City Council's Economic Recovery Fund, Hillsborough Together has become an integral part of the Hillsborough community. The organisation has undertaken numerous initiatives to realise the area’s potential, including a storefront improvement scheme, street art installations, floral arrangements, benches, waste bins and a wide array of events throughout the year. Notably, Hillsborough Together is responsible for illuminating Hillsborough with Christmas lights, adding a festive feel to the high street, all aimed at bringing more visitors back into the district to enjoy the wide range of businesses that Hillsborough has to offer.

Following another positive year of growth for the S6 area, the organisation plans to see out the year with its biggest event yet, collaborating with Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Rivelin Co and St John’s Baptist Church, Owlerton to present ‘Christmas Starts With You In Hillsborough’ – an event designed to infuse the high street with the magic of Christmas.

Taking place Thursday 30th November, Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd December, the celebration of community, independent businesses and the indomitable spirit of Hillsborough will deliver an impressive line-up of festive activities, attractions and special appearances.

The festivities commence on Thursday, November 30th at 4:30pm, starting at The Hillsborough Tap and continuing across Hillsborough. The event will feature a multitude of exciting experiences, including the highly anticipated Christmas tree switch-on ceremony, a capitvating children's trail and a cast of superheroes throughout the high street. Hillsborough Arena will come alive with games, thrilling activities and a bustling Christmas market showcasing the finest offerings from local independent businesses.

Attendees will have the chance to win exciting prizes on our trail, including special prizes generously donated by Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, and a special highlight will be a guest appearance by the club’s beloved mascot Ozzy Owl.

On Friday December 1st, St John's Owlerton will host their Snowflake Switch On event in aid of Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The event will run from 4.30pm-8pm and will include a Brass Band, Nativity Characters, Food Stalls, a makers market, and children’s crafts.

Saturday, December 2nd, will see Rivelin Co and Friends of Hillsborough Park host their Christmas event in Hillsborough Park, featuring a Makers Market from 11am-4pm in the Pavilion and a Share & Repair shop. The walled garden will host a treasure trail, wreath making and children’s wand making from 12 noon-3pm.

Janine Lawson, the project manager for the Hillsborough Together’s ‘Christmas Starts With You In Hillsborough’, expressed her enthusiasm for this momentous occasion, stating, "This is an exciting time for Hillsborough, and this event will demonstrate just some of the incredible things our community has to offer. By bringing together the high street and the local community, we aim to showcase the vibrant spirit of Hillsborough and create lasting connections between residents and independent businesses."

The Hillsborough Together Christmas Weekender aims to strengthen the bonds within the community and foster collaboration between residents and independent businesses. By supporting local enterprises and promoting the unique character of Hillsborough, this event will contribute to the growth and prosperity of the entire community.

Hillsborough Together invites all residents, visitors, and independent businesses to participate in this festive celebration. By coming together, we can create something for the whole family that will leave a lasting impression and showcase the true essence of Hillsborough.
