Record number of students at Longley Park Sixth Form involved in Discover Programme

Students from Longley Park Sixth Form with top GCSE grades have been selected to partake in The Discover Programme at Sheffield University.

The Discover programme supports students in raising aspirations and making competitive applications to the University of Sheffield. Students can choose from a range of subjects depending on their subject interest. If they successfully complete the scheme, they can enjoy adjusted university offers as well as guaranteed interviews on highly sought after courses such as medicine.

Stephen Reid, who looks after high achieving students at Longley Park said: "Last year we had three students accepted on to Discover schemes, this year we have 14. This is obviously a significant increase and is testament to the quality of applications made by our students this year."

The chosen students will explore the possibilities offered by higher education across a range of subjects from arts and humanities to dentistry.

Arts and humanities student and Longley Park Student Ambassador Elliott said: "I’m so excited to be part of this programme especially due to the high success rate of students who have previously been involved in the Discover Programme. I’m looking forward to gaining the skills I need to progress in my career and stand out from the crowd in university and job applications."

Longley’s successful students are now looking forward to taking part in their inductions at the university in the coming months.
