Celebrating World Chocolate Week In Style

Celebrating World Chocolate Week In Style supporting image

Residents of the Chocolate Works Care Village were greeted with a magnificent creation from 12-year-old master baker Gil Andrew – a life-like replica of the beautifully restored building that looked too good to eat!

Gil, whose step-grandma resides at The Chocolate Works, made the cake as part of Chocolate Week, which ran from 12-18 October.

Gil, who was taught to bake by his grandma, demonstrated fantastic attention to detail in the buildings architecture to capture the magnificent expansive windows which span across the buildings front. In a safe and secure environment, residents were able to enjoy this delicious chocolatey treat, so welcome in these difficult times with visiting restrictions at the home.

Set in the former headquarters of the world-renowned Terry’s of York chocolate factory, an iconic landmark of the city, this establishment was once a beacon within the chocolate making industry so celebrating the building’s heritage was a wonderful gesture from Gil and greatly appreciated by the team at the Chocolate Works.

Since June 2017 the team at Chocolate Works Care Village have been working hard to consistently get creative in the village putting smiles on faces of residents and, just like they have seen by Gil spreading generosity, providing thoughtful and heart-warming acts of kindness with lots of interactive activities in line with the relevant season or awareness day for them to get involved with. Because if one thing is for sure COVID can’t take that away.

Following a £10million renovation of the old headquarters of Terry’s of York, Springfield sets new standards for elderly care in the heart of the community. The vast central double height glazed atrium has been preserved and transformed into a unique 'marketplace' setting for the residents and visitors, complete with café, restaurant, spa, hairdresser, gym and even its own fully licensed pub, The Duke of York! A large roof terrace allows residents to enjoy uninterrupted views across York towards the Minster, adjoining race course and across the rest of the chocolate works site.
