The wildlife centre has had some additions to their Nocturnal Room.

The Tropical Butterfly House in North Anston, Sheffield, has acquired six naked mole rats.

The subterranean rodents, who live as long as 30 years, have a natural ability to stop tumours forming and can stop themselves from having cancer. Luckily, the Tropical Butterfly House is one of only five zoos in the UK to house the extraordinary animals.

Visitors who go to the wildlife centre to see the naked mole rats until the 26 February will also get to see the Looking Good February half term event. Alongside the usual daily animal encounters, there will also be additional activities including grooming guinea pigs, making Valentine’s gifts for the lemurs, a quiz trail, and a dress up competition.

The Tropical Butterfly House is open daily. See www.butterflyhouse.co.uk for more information.
