John Lewis personal stylists Kim and Peter

John Lewis fashion experts offer up some tips and tricks

If you’re struggling for summer/spring workwear inspiration, here are some words of wisdom from Peter and Kim, the fashion experts at John Lewis, Sheffield.

Top tips for men

-       Introduce a coloured or patterned scarf to emphasise muted tones

-       Ditch the blue shirts and go lighter and brighter

-       Don’t be afraid to incorporate a tailored waistcoat, and maybe even underlay a relaxed shirt or tee

-       Remember the importance of a well-fitted shirt

-       Shoes don’t always have to be black or brown - experiment with colour

Top tips for women

-       Utilise pastel colours with a twin trouser suit, but add a t-shirt underneath

-       Mix smart and casual where possible

-       Add a statement bag in a lime or electric blue

-       If opting for a lower cut pair with a patterned or bright scarf

-       Add a bright and light trench coat to add a pop of colour to a formal outfit

Seasonal Alternatives

-       Steer clear of open toe shoes, opt for light or floral closed toe shoes and pointed boots

-       If opting for a lower cut shirt, add a coloured scarf or statement necklace

-       Wear a cardigan with capped sleeves

-       If opting for a pop of colour, make sure it is your colour

-       Avoid mixing navy’s and black’s especially when it comes to suits

-       Layer clean cuts to accentuate your body shape whilst still looking professional

Top spring colours

-       Crayola Bright’s

-       Orange & Navy

-       Pinks

-       Ash tones

-       Light, bright and warm shades
