SUFC raise funds for one of Sheffield’s leading cancer charities

A gala dinner held by Sheffield United Football Club raised a substantial amount of money for one of Sheffield’s leading cancer charities.

The event, held at Chatsworth House and sponsored by one of the UKs leading independent online timber door retailers, Doordeals, raised funds for Weston Park Cancer Charity.

The dinner featured performances by singer and 2014 X Factor winner, Sam Bailey, Emmerdale actress Isobel Steele, who sang throughout the meal, and Sheffield-born Britain’s Got Talent finalist Kyle Tomlinson, with Sam and Kyle performing a surprise duet at the end of the evening.

Westfield Health made a surprise £10k donation on the night which also featured a charity auction.

Steve Naylor, managing director of Doordeals said: “I’m extremely proud for Doordeals to be associated with such a rewarding and worthwhile event which saw the business community of South Yorkshire being brought together with SUFC to raise money for an amazing charity.”

Sheffield United operations director, Dave McCarthy, said: “It’s extremely fulfilling to have been able to raise what we expect to be a substantial amount to one of our nominated charities, Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

“As a community-focused football club, we at Sheffield United place great importance in supporting regional charities which do so much and help so many people.

“We hope that the money we and every who attended raised at our charity gala dinner makes a real difference to a charity which helps so many, every day.”

Weston Park Cancer Charity deputy director, Tina Harrison, said: “The Sheffield United Gala Dinner was a magnificent event which went on to raise such an incredible amount of money for the cancer charity.

“We simply cannot thank Sheffield United Football Club and all the organisers enough, as well as the people who attended for their utmost generosity and support of our vital work.

“We are completely overwhelmed to have received this generous ammount of donationsfrom the dinner, which will go towards creating a better life for cancer patients across Sheffield and beyond.

“The proceeds will help fund various projects which provide; practical help to those in need, emotional support to those in despair and enhanced care for those who need it most”
