The old primary school building is currently being transferred over from Sheffield Council to Groundwork South Yorkshire.
Groundwork South Yorkshire's Community Project Officer, Thea Kerwick, says "our vision is to turn the space into a thriving community hub for the people of the local area. We plan to develop ideas alongside the local community for projects, classes and clubs. We also aim to run a community café in the space! Finally, to keep the space running and financially sustainable we are looking for local people, organisations and groups to rent the spaces within the building; this can be long-term (by renting one of the classroom spaces) or short-term (renting the hall or one of the rooms for a meeting, event, class or club).
"We are also looking for funding to support us in the regeneration of the building and surrounding outdoor space, we would ideally like to do this alongside the community so this may open up the possibility of apply for small pots for specific renovation projects.
At this stage we are mainly interested in generating both excitement about the project and hearing from groups and organisations that may potentially want to become tenants in Tingas. Of course, at this moment in time, it is going to be difficult for people to get involved due to the pandemic; however, we would like to take this opportunity to get in touch with prospective tenants and groups and apply for funding pots, so we are as ready as we can be when the lockdown is lifted!"
