An artist's impression of what the new retail quarter could look like
The long wait for the redevelopment of the city centre could be almost over
At long last it looks as if the long-promised redevelopment of Sheffield city centre might finally be on the horizon.
Boosted by the new market and the arrival of The Light, the Moor is looking livelier than it has done for years.
And the development of new offices for HSBC, along with shops and cafes on the former site of the old Grosvenor House Hotel, is due for completion next year – further evidence that things may be looking up.
But now there appear to be concrete steps towards building the new retail quarter that has been promised for so long.
Planning applications are expected soon, with work beginning on the £470m scheme shortly afterwards.
CITMAG takes a detailed look at the plans here, but it seems that the shopping centre that Sheffield so badly needs might not be so far off.
