VIBE is offering our lucky readers the chance to win the present that keeps on giving this Friday evening (6 December)! Up for grabs is an early Christmas present which includes a Prosecco reception and three-course meal for two at Silversmiths restaurant, followed by an evening of 80s indie classics at the Leadmill courtesy of The Wedding Present. Without getting too ambassadorial about it, we’re really spoiling you, aren’t we?!
Our mates, and current owners of Silversmiths, on Arundel Street (a five minute walk from the Leadmill), re-opened the restaurant in October this year, and the rejuvenated venue, which famously featured on Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares programme, has already been receiving rave reviews.
The famous Sheffield hotspot, which in its heyday won numerous awards for its culinary delights, now boasts 23-year-old Ashley Bagshaw at the helm as Head Chef and there are high-hopes for a return to those halcyon days.
Ashley’s skill and enthusiasm has already helped reinvigorate the new menu, and, as well as the new modern touches they have also brought back a few much-loved classics including Tuesday Night Pie Night and their pre-theatre packages, priced at £19 for two courses and £22 for three.
Once you’ve been spoilt rotten by Silversmiths, the prize then takes you just down the road to the Leadmill to enjoy some classic 80s indie in the shape of David Lewis Gedge’s cult heroes The Wedding Present.
One of John Peel’s favourites, The Wedding Present have had eighteen UK Top 40 hit singles, which is not bad for a band that has, from its inception, stubbornly refused to play the record industry’s game.
Back in 1985, Gedge boarded a National Express coach to London with 500 records packed into a pair of his mother’s suitcases and that pioneering spirit has been at the core of the band’s philosophy ever since. From GEORGE BEST, “an unmitigated delight” [NME], the first full-length release on their own Reception Records onwards, the band has charted an appealing, if often eccentric, course of its very own.
To be in with a shot of winning this incredible night of free entertainment in the run-up to Christmas, simply answer the following question. You’d have some brassneck to turn your nose up.
On which Sheffield street is Silversmiths restaurant?
