Take a trip back in time on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales

Ripley Castle, situated three miles north of the spa town of Harrogate, has been the home of the Ingilby family for 26 generations, and Sir Thomas and Lady Ingilby, together with their five children, continue to maintain the tradition.

From the moment you enter the village, Ripley stands apart. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales – seven miles south of Ripon with its magnificent cathedral – the village offers an abundance of interesting things to uncover.

Ripley Castle boasts entertaining and informative guided tours, which are enthralling for all ages, following the lives and loves of the Ingilby family for over 700 years.

The Old Tower – dating from 1555 – houses splendid armour, books, panelling and a priest’s secret hiding place, together with fine paintings, china, furnishings and chandeliers collected by the family over the centuries.

The extensive Victorian walled gardens have been recently transformed and are a colourful delight through every season.

The restored hot houses have an extensive tropical plant collection, and in the kitchen gardens you can appreciate an assortment of rare vegetables from the Henry Doubleday Research Association.

The Boar's Head – a beautiful old coaching Inn – sits on the castle’s doorstep as part of the Ripley Castle estate. One of the Great Inns of Britain, visitors to The Boar's Head can enjoy dining in a tranquil and relaxed atmosphere, together with a fantastic selection of real ales and fine wines.

The bar bistro and formal dining room boast an abundance of inspirational seasonal fare – frequently changing to capture the essence of each season – complemented with exceptional service and comfort, available to both residents and non-residents.

Head chef Oliver Stewart works closely with local producers who supply the finest local seasonal ingredients, as well as sourcing produce from the castle’s own kitchen gardens.

There are exciting wines to complement each seasonal menu. Food is served daily and in the summer months guests can enjoy a drink in the tranquil beer garden.

With ever-friendly staff who are eager to make guests feel welcome at all times, dining at The Boar’s Head is always an experience to remember.

Guests staying at The Boar’s Head are invited to enjoy free entry to Ripley Castle Gardens and can enjoy a guided tour of Ripley Castle at a reduced rate, subject to Castle opening times.

Food is served:
